TutorYou at the University of York!
Following on from the UCAS International Teachers’ and Avisers’ conference in Manchester, TutorYou travelled North to the University of York to attend the University’s Teachers’ and Career Advisers’ Conference. This was a fantastic opportunity for us to not only visit the university and see all it’s amazing facilities and departments, but also to learn about all the courses on offer from lecturers and current students.
The conference started with a welcome from Simon Willis the Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions and was followed by a Keynote Speech from the University’s Placement Coordinators, Lucy Brookes and Nicola Clemmit on Placement Opportunities and Industry Links available for students at York.
The conference also included breakout sessions focused on the Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences and Sciences. These breakout sessions included groups for speed networking, alumni talks and tours of the University’s different departments.
During lunch there was also an extra curriculum fair, a great opportunity for us to learn about the University of York Student’s Union and different options available to the students such as careers advice and volunteering opportunities.
With over 30 academic departments and research centers, the University of York has plenty to offer and has a growing student body of nearly 16,000. Ranked 137th in the World according to The Times Higher Education World University Rankings (2018) and 42nd in the world for Arts and Humanities (2018), 79th in the world for Life Sciences (2017) and 82nd in the world for Social Sciences (2018) are just some of the University of York’s achievements!
Thank you for inviting us! It was a pleasure to visit you and learn more about this University!
